Benji joins the prestigious list of Spa 24 winners alongside teammates Thomas Neubauer and Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer.
The #30 ROFGO WRT squad had a faultless weekend. They qualified in the top 20 of the 66-car grid, making their way into the Superpole, where Thomas set the second fastest laptime amongst the Silver Cup cars.
Benji took the start on Saturday afternoon and made a perfect getaway. The 19-year-old Venture Engineering-supported driver completed a superb double stint before passing the wheel of the Gulf-liveried Audi to Neubauer (23) who then passed the baton to Simmenauer (21). The three youngsters drove in a perfect rhythm, unbothered by the several FCY’s, Safety Car phases and even a lengthy red flag. Avoiding any mistakes, they delivered a mature drive despite their young age. They have been driving amongst the frontrunners during the entire race and thanks to their skilled drive combined with WRT’s impeccable strategy, they took the lead just at the right time to claim the Silver Cup win, completing one of the most gruelling races without a single scratch on the car or penalty next to their names.
This win comes after the trio’s victory at Imola and second-place finish at Le Castellet, putting them top of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup and the combined GT World Challenge Europe championship standings.
Benjamin Goethe:
“We just won Spa 24H! It hasn’t sunken in yet. Hard to describe how it feels to win a 24H race. Every race win is special, but to win for WRT at their home race is just something else. I am proud of everyone in the team. They all worked so hard all week and I am happy we could reward them with this victory. Thanks to Thomas and JB for doing an incredible job and to all the guys and girls behind the pitwall, You are all part of this success. I would also like to thank my parents, Jordan for giving me the time off work and all my partners for their support, without such support this result was simply not possible.”
Jamie Campbell-Walter:
“So proud beyond belief of what Benji has achieved at such a young age and with an average age of just 21 years old for all three drivers. Of course, this couldn’t have been done without the superb work of Vincent Vosse and his team WRT. They are so professional and supportive of all the drivers and such a slick operation, I know this will mean a lot to them as well and I thank them all. Benji has driven amazingly well all season and he fully deserves this result and I now hope this is a springboard to even more success over the coming years. Benji join’s the prestigious list of Spa 24 winners alongside teammates Thomas Neubauer and Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer.”
The GT World Challenge European Championship continues in a months’ time on September 2-4 at the Hockenheimring.
