GTWCE - BARCELONA

BENJAMIN GOETHE WRAPS UP 2021 SEASON WITH A STELLAR PERFORMANCE IN BARCELONA

The grand finale of the 2021 GT World Challenge Europe Season took place last weekend at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Goethe was sharing the #30 WRT Audi with long-time coach Stuart Hall and James Pull in the Endurance Cup this year and the trio finished the challenging season on a high by crossing the line in a hard-fought sixth place in class.

The weekend didn’t start as the #30 Audi would like with a lack of pace throughout the Friday test sessions, leading up to the Qualifying where they could only secure 14th place in the Silver Cup ranking, putting them near the back of the grid.

Benjamin was chosen to start the race and the ROFGO Junior driver rose to the challenge as soon as the lights went out. He made a stellar start, followed by a spectacular charge through the field, moving up 11 positions by the end of his 1-hour stint.

Goethe passed the baton to Hall who completed an impeccable run before Pull took over to finish the job, crossing the line in P6 in Silver Cup, making it five Top 6 finishes out of five races for the #30 ROFGO WRT squad, including a podium finish in Monza.

With this result, Benjamin finished the GTWCE Endurance Cup Season in fifth place, along with his podiums in Dubai 24hrs and a brilliant podium in the Sprint championship in Misano.

Benjamin Goethe, ROFGO Junior driver:

“Not the result we came here for as we were aiming to finish the season the way we started it, but sixth place was the most we could achieve this weekend. We’ve been struggling with the qualifying pace throughout the entire season and it has caught us out once again. In the end, we made a great recovery during the race from the back of the grid, ending the season in fifth place overall. It’s been a fun season. Massive thanks to Team WRT and my teammates for everything and thanks to my family for the support.”

Jamie Campbell-Walter, Managing Director of Bullet Sports Management:

“A huge leap forward this year for Benjamin and he should be proud of the progress he has made. After completing his A-levels at Millfield School, Benji has produced some fantastic performances in his second year with Team WRT and the Audi R8 LMS, I think we can all be proud of what he has achieved and look forward to the future with the confidence of more success, Next year will be an important year for Benji to perform at a high level throughout the season.”
