In 2022, Goethe entered his second full season in the pinnacle of GT racing with Team WRT. The 19-year-old who made his SRO series debut at only 16, teamed up with Thomas Neubauer in the #30 Gulf liveried car for the Sprint Cup, joined by Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer for the Endurance rounds.
The young trio made it clear from the start that they are a force to reckon with. They started the season with a win at the 3 hours of Imola, and after just missing out on the podium at Paul Ricard, they claimed a spectacular victory at the 24 Hours of Spa, the biggest GT race in the world. With another podium finish on Benji’s first visit to the Hockenheimring, the #30 Team WRT squad secured the GT World Challenge Endurance Cup Silver Cup title with one race to spare.
In the Sprint series, Benjamin and Thomas took five Silver Cup podiums, including a win and overall podium in Misano, and finished in the top ten in nine out of ten races. Thanks to this consistent performance, they were able to seal the Combined Silver Cup title as well before the season finale.
After winning both titles, they arrived at Barcelona with nothing to lose, but Benjamin and his teammates didn’t lean back, giving a worthy send-off to Audi, as the German manufacturer departs from Team WRT after 12 years of working together.
Following their strong performance in the qualifying, securing a P2 start for the season finale, the youngsters gave their all, and crossed the line in first place in the Silver Cup after three hours, scoring Team WRT’s final victory with Audi.
Benjamin Goethe:
“It’s been the perfect way to finish the season after starting it with a win back in Imola. We were lacking pace all weekend long, but we still managed to pull off this win, thanks to the hard work of the entire team. It’s been undoubtedly the best season of my career. Big thanks to my teammates Thomas and JB, to Vincent and the entire WRT team for everything. I am proud to be a part of this family. Thanks to my partners for their relentless support, to my parents, and to Jordan for giving me time off work for the weekends.“
